Lady Lorien's impressions: This is a favorite of Shoyeido fans and now I know why. There is a complexity that is subtle and sweet, smooth and rich, all without being overbearing. The patchouli adds so much to this incense, but you have to remember that this is a Japanese blending of patchouli and not at all what you may be used to in your experiences with other incenses such as Indian masala types. There is no heaviness and no cloying cling that most people equate with the plant. There is a quietness to this patchouli, a slightly floral essence that makes me think they used the flowers rather than focusing on the more pungent and astringent leaves. The benzoin adds a creaminess to the overall experience. This incense is masterfully blended and is one of my favorites to burn throughout the day and into the evening hours.
