Lady Lorien's impressions: OK, I'll say it: I don't like patchouli. I've never liked patchouli. It's always been something I've considered cloying and it's never been a fragrance I've gravitated toward. Leave it to Shoyeido to change my mind. This Patchouli is absolutely incredible. The herbaceous leaves are tempered with sandalwood and spices and as with other blends crafted by Shoyeido that include patchouli, I really believe they are using the whole plant and not just the leaves. I detect a veiled backdrop of sweet floral to the blend along with a creamy smoothness that is likely coming from a touch of benzoin and, of course, the high-grade Mysore sandalwood that is in nearly every Shoyeido incense recipe. This is a remarkable and memorable incense and I promise you that no matter if you are a long-time lover of patchouli or if you are like me and generally avoid it, you will fall in love with this one and come back to it time and again.
