An Ostara Meditation

Ostara is just a few days away, you can learn a little more about Ostara here and we thought we'd share a meditation written by one of our students

Ostara Meditation

Written by: Autumn Stormdancer (Sacred Mists Student)

In your sacred space, sit comfortably and close your eyes. Take a deep breath in and feel all of the tension of the day slip out of your body as you exhale.

Feel your muscles relax, starting with your head and face, traveling down your neck, across your shoulders, arms, chest, belly.

Take another deep breath in and feel your hips, legs, ankles and feet relax as you exhale.

As you take another deep breath in, allow the thoughts that are lingering in your mind to rest – you can tend to them later. Clear your mind of any mundane issues. Feel yourself open to a new awareness.

You can feel the warmth of the sun shining on your face. You open your eyes and find yourself sitting in a meadow. The grass is a brilliant green.

Small white and yellow blossoms dot the landscape. The fresh colours of Spring surround you, filling you with a lightness of spirit.

Your sight lingers on one particular bloom, larger than the rest. It is a tulip, creamy yellow. Its petals resemble a small cup. You wonder what is contained within this cup: Morning dew to refresh? Rainwater to cleanse? New life?

As you watch the petals appear to separate.

It looks as though some of the petals are moving away from the tulip. Two petals begin to move in opposite yet corresponding flutters. You realize that it is not flower petals you are seeing, but wings – butterfly wings! The creamy yellow wings of a Spring butterfly dance through the air, moving toward you. You lift up your hand.

The butterfly approaches, tickling your hand with its lightness. It bobs around before it lands on your outstretched palm. You are transfixed, immobile.

As you watch it, you are sure that it is looking at you, waiting. What is it waiting for, you ask yourself? Then you understand. You move your hand closer to your face, and whisper your wish of renewal.

The butterfly is still for a moment longer. Then, with a gentle flutter of its wings, it is dancing on the air again. You laugh, enjoying the show that this marvellous creature is putting on for you.

Then, magickally, the butterfly is no more. In its place hovers a small faerie dressed in the creamy yellow petals of the tulip. She smiles at you, her eyes sparkling.

She continues to dance on the air. As she opens her mouth to speak, you hear music. In your mind you know that she will deliver your wish. She winks, nods, and gently flutters away with the light breeze.

You watch her for a couple of moments, shrinking as she disappears in the sunlight, now just a speck in the distance. You feel a sense of hope, knowing that Winter is behind you and Spring is finally here. Renewal abounds, new life is everywhere.

You stand up, stretching your legs. You begin to walk, refreshed and ready to proceed. Your wish will be delivered to the universe, to do with as it will. You close your eyes in thanks. You open your eyes to find yourself sitting once again in your sacred space.
