How to Use Charcoal Incense Disks

Prepare the Container
Place a charcoal disk into a heat-safe container filled with a buffer material, such as incense sand or ceremonial white ash, to protect the surface and ensure even heat distribution.

Ignite the Charcoal Disk
Using a lighter or long match, hold the flame to one corner of the disc. The disk will begin to crackle and ignite, with the flame spreading across its surface. Gently blow on the disc to encourage full ignition, until it glows red with a blackened surface, resembling solidified molten lava.

Add Your Incense
Once the disk is fully heated, place your loose incense—resin, powder, or herbs—on top. Continue to add incense as needed to maintain a steady flow of aromatic smoke throughout your space.

Important Storage Tips for Charcoal

To ensure proper function, incense charcoal must remain completely dry. Store opened packages of charcoal disks in a sealed ziplock bag, with a paper towel to help absorb moisture. If a charcoal disk becomes difficult to light or fails to retain heat, it has likely absorbed moisture and should be discarded. Replace it with a fresh, dry disk for optimal performance.
