Extremely rare! Considered royalty among all the sages - None are more desirable in the garden. A hummingbird favorite!

Pitcher Sage (Salvia spathacea) is an evergreen, clumping perennial flowering to 3 feet. Native to the California Central Valley and Southern California. Easily one of the most sought-after sages worldwide, the plant is pineapple aromatic and covered with oil glands. The very robust flowering cola can be as thick as your wrist. The flowers occur in dense whorls - elongated, magenta, and highly attractive to hummingbirds.

This variety of sage calms and centers the mind, making this herb excellent for a meditation garden. Use pitcher sage in hydrosols to help with mental focus and uplifting your mood. When hummingbird sage is used in smudges or incense, it is said to assist in shamanic journey work, dream magick, and purification of space before rituals. The aroma of this sage is similar to white sage but is a little sweeter.

Cultivation: The plant prefers sun to part shade and moderate water. The plant thrives in the dry shade of oaks or pines. Seeds 3-5 times larger than most sage species (e.g., S. officinalis, S. apiana) and very rarely seen available for purchase. Sow in a fast-draining mix. Barely cover, tamp securely, and keep evenly moist and warm until germination. Work up in pots and transplant out when sufficiently sized. Space plants 2 feet apart. If happy, they will spread to cover the interstices and can become a monotypic patch.

One packet of 10 seeds. Certified organically grown.
