Soapwort is a herbaceous perennial, hardy in zones 4 to 8 and is native to southern Europe. It is a lovely upright plant with lance-shaped leaves and attractive white or pink flowers.
Spiritual and Magickal Usage:
  • Soapwort is excellent for magickal cleansing, to make a natural and gentle cleansing lather, swish bruised leaves in warm water or powder from dried roots in hot water to create a gentle cleansing. Use this on tools, yourself, or surfaces before spells and rituals.
  • Add soapwort flowers to herbal incenses for cleansing and purification.
  • Add to a bath tea for lather and cleansing.
Herbal Uses:
  • Using blanched leaves, make a poultice (or compress) to comfort and clear skin rashes.
  • Soapwort can be used in food by adding flowers to fruit salads and sweet dishes or summer drinks such as lemonade.
  • A decoction soothes itching.
Soapwort is an excellent choice for a permanent bedding plant. Sow in the spring by barely covering the seed. Tamp them down securely. Keep them warm and in the light until germination, which takes approximately 30 days. Thin to 1 foot apart, this will spread to make a patch of bedding.
